JAN HEYING
Account Supervisor
Jan Heying is an award-winning public relations and marketing professional
with more than 25 years of experience in providing effective and creative
campaigns for legal, business and non-profit clients. She is the founder
of Heying & Associates, a San Diego-based full service public relations
and advertising agency, with flagship clients including the San Diego
County Bar Association, Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar
of California, San Diego City Schools, the San Diego County Regional Occupational
Program and Mission Federal Credit Union. In 1983, the agency was tapped
to introduce dietCoke to the Western United States, the largest new product
launch in Coca-Cola America’s history.
After more than 10 years as the San Diego County Bar Association’s
outside public relations and media counsel, Heying recognized the need
for marketing specialists who are experienced in the unique needs of the
legal industry and in 1990, opened Legal Image – a full-service
marketing and image development firm dedicated solely to representation
of lawyers, law firms, law schools, and legal-related support service
clients. Legal Image’s team of experts comprises experienced legal
industry professionals from technical writers and media experts to long
range planning strategists and branding specialists. Heying has headed
teams which have created long range strategic plans, crisis communication
programs, business/corporate networking opportunities, identity and branding
campaigns and media relationships that continue to meet and exceed, client
goals and objectives.
Her reputation as an experienced legal marketing consultant has garnered
Legal Image a prestigious client portfolio. Among those clients she has
represented: Board members and former presidents of the State Bar of California;
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton; Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek;
Sullivan Hill Lewin Rez & Engel; Thomas Jefferson School of Law; Cal
Western School of Law; Higgs Fletcher & Mack; Butz Dunn DeSantis &
Bingham; Stutz Artiano Shinoff & Holtz; Orange County Bar Association;
Bar Association of Northern San Diego County; Bar Association of San Francisco;
Contra Costa County Bar Association; San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program;

Heying is a frequent lecturer at local civic and charity organizations,
universities, State Bar and American Bar Conferences and has authored
numerous articles on legal public relations and marketing. An active member
in the community, she has served on the American Lung Association Board
of San Diego/Imperial Counties Board of Directors, Partnerships in Education
Advisory Board, as a volunteer for the Humane Society, Partners for Livable
Places and served as Vice-President of the San Diego Press Club as well
as co-chaired the State Bar of California's Standing Committee on Lawyer
Referral and Information Services for 10 years.
Under Heying’s direction, Legal Image has received a variety of
awards from both local and national organizations, including the coveted
LAMMIES (Legal Advertising and Marketing Awards), presented by the American
Bar Association, and the Press Club of San Diego's J-Award.
Heying holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism with an emphasis
in Public Relations from San Diego State University.
